Spring & Summer Service Days:
Every year, we host two major volunteer days, one in April and one in August, when we invite groups and individuals to help out with large and small projects of all types around the campus. It’s a fun-filled day, with all our residents and staff participating, and complimentary breakfast, lunch and ice cream social provided! Our next service day will be held on Thursday, August 16.
Group Volunteer Opportunities:
Adopt-A-Cottage: This entails adopting a cottage of 10 girls or a group home (off-campus residence) of 6 girls for a specified period of time. The group could do many different things for the girls, including, remembering them on birthdays and holidays, planting flowers, work projects, or providing cottage necessities. The possibilities are endless.
Corporate/Group Volunteer Days: Companies can host a day for their employees to do a service project at the agency. Imagine the team building, as well as morale benefits of having your employees work together to make a difference for our residents. We will work with you to find the ideal project!
Individual Volunteer Opportunities:
Mentors: Mentors are needed for mentoring relationships with 4th – 8th grade youth in the Claremont Unified School District and 7th – 12th grade girls at the Joan Macy School. We’re looking for positive, responsible and caring men and women, from high school juniors to adults of all ages. A one-year commitment is required.
David & Margaret Auxiliary: This group of volunteers supports the agency by organizing fundraisers such as the annual fashion show and harvest brunch, helping at special events and sponsoring special projects for our youth. Meetings are held monthly at lunchtime. Active members pay $10 in annual dues; sustaining members pay $20.
Motivational Speakers: We are in need of professional businesswomen to speak to our girls during lunchtime for approximately 20 minutes followed by a 5 to 10 minute Q&A session. The topic would be the speaker’s career and the path they took to get there. This is an opportunity to volunteer a very small amount of time, with the potential to impact a large number of young lives.
Recreation: Volunteers with creative skills are needed to teach crafts to our girls in small groups. This would help to make their free time more enjoyable, therapeutic, and productive. Volunteers with special skills in areas such as sewing and music or with experience teaching teenage girls are especially desired.
Ministry Aides: Members of different faiths are needed to support the Chaplain’s outreach program. Because our resident population comes from diverse cultural, ethnic, and religious backgrounds, it is impossible for us to meet all their spiritual needs. Ministry aides provide transportation to and from their church/house of worship on a regular basis and give our girls the opportunity to participate in special activities such as youth ministry, confirmation, etc.
Recovery Sponsors: Adult women in recovery from their own histories of drug and/or alcohol abuse are needed to sponsor adolescent girls who are in the process of becoming clean and sober. Sponsors help these girls by going with them to group meetings, providing ongoing one-on-one support, and helping to envision a future free of drugs and alcohol.
Marketing/PR & Fundraising Committees: Individuals with experience and/or interest in marketing, public relations or fundraising are needed to contribute their creative ideas, guidance and community connections.
Holiday Projects: We are always in need of table decorations for our central dining room. Help is also needed in organizing the gifts that come in from local donors. Our busiest time for gifts is Thanksgiving through Christmas, but gifts arrive year-round. This could include gift-wrapping during the month of December.
Clerical Aides: Persons with clerical skills are needed to help with filing, data entry, making copies and other general office duties.
Maintenance/Landscaping: There is an on-going need for volunteers to help our maintenance staff with painting, carpentry, bike repair, gardening, and tree pruning.
Warehouse: Volunteer to assist in the reception, pricing, and stocking of donated items.
